February in Cyprus

Without wishing to appear smug it looks like we left the UK just in time. The extreme weather, especially in the south, has been horrendous. Let's hope things start to improve soon. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by the floods.

We arrived late on Saturday evening and here we are out for Sunday lunch with some friends at the harbour. Like stepping into another world. Note the port and marine police boats in the background, the crew of which are known to all as they spend most of the day sitting around drinking coffee. One even has relatives in Bedfordshire, it's a small world.

We don't seem to be able to keep away from boats for long these days.

Spring has already sprung here. This is the first time we have been out in February and the weather is much better than we expected. The locals however are unhappy that they have had so little rain this winter as it is needed to keep the dams topped up for the summer.

But when the sun goes down the evenings can feel chilly. On Monday we had a woodburning stove installed in our apartment so we are now as warm as toast. Bliss.

We have plenty of jobs to do whilst we are here to keep us busy, the usual springtime spruce up. Chris  is already getting stuck in although he looks as if he has stepped out of CSI Miami in his paper boiler suit!

And this is the view behind him from the roof terrace with all the almond trees blossoming.

Coffee break time, so quiet with hardly any tourists out here yet.

This is the lovely little Greek Orthodox Church in the centre of Polis, the little town that has become our second home. The church is still used regularly for services today.

Signing off for now but as it is February 14th, wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day. And to all those gangsters and molls hitting the town in St Jean de Losne tonight we want to see pictures!
